Happily Retired - 8 Blue Chip Shopping list - Self Reference

HappilyRetired
MY CURRENT 8 BLUE CHIP SHOPPING LIST
STI had fallen from 3600 level to 3100 level, a drop of close to 15%! and this was a great time to had been buying quality stocks on the cheap.
If you are feeling worried about your paper losses and not sleeping well at night then maybe stocks are not suited for you, sell them all and put the cash into SSB or fixed deposit to sleep well~!
Instead this should be the time that your rejoice! would you rather pay a low price or a high price to purchase these blue chips? of course you would happier paying less ^_^
some blue chips that I had been buying or currently waiting to buy
$DBS(D05.SI)
added back near 24+ level as the dividend of 1.20 makes it close to a solid 5% yield, I had previously sold off near 30 level so this was an easy buy back, I believe the oil crisis has passed and the current trade war crisis should not affect our bank's earnings
$OCBC Bank(O39.SI)
added more at 11+ level as 1.2 times book value along with a 12% expected ROE% produces a solid 10% returns for long term, this is now my 2nd largest position behind thaibev. What i like most about OCBC is its high recurring income from asset management business as well as its hidden asset play of property and insurance biz which are non core that can be unlocked for huge profits.
$CapitaMall Trust(C38U.SI)
Upon their announcement of westgate deal, I quickly unloaded my entire position at 2.20 level... I believe its quite overpriced at 4%+, allowing the parent capitaland to clock a big gain...I would look to re purchase CMT if it comes back to 2.00 level again or 1 times book value
$CapitaLand(C31.SI)
added more at 3.30 level and will add even more at 3.00 level to average down, I had mentioned much in details previously, 30% discount to book and 4% yield, much a value play
$Ascendas Reit(A17U.SI)
the placement deal is very dilution and big discount, 2.40 would seem a good level for accumulation.. banks and property have fallen much, reits could start falling next due to faster than expected rate hikes
$SingTel(Z74.SI)
Previously bought this 2 years ago for the NLT special dividend play but was greatly disappointed and sold all out at 3.50, ST just kept disappointing more with poor results... earnings outlook is very very bad ahead... but with the dividends to be maintained for next 2 years there could be value if bought on the cheap.
3.00 could be a solid entry, 2.80 would be great
$ComfortDelGro(C52.SI)
the worst should be over for CDG yet not much attention is paid to it, I previous bought at 2.00 and sold of my entire position at 2.40 so I wouldn't mind boarding again at 2.20 or 2.00 level
$ThaiBev(Y92.SI)
Still holding on and didnt not add more as this is already my top position, I may considering buying a bit more if 60 cents level comes but this is unlikely. 2018 full year earnings looks bad before a recovery in 2019, will be a long and tough ride out I guess

Son Misappropriate Mother Money

The news whom a women sues her son for misappropriating at least 500,000 of her bank money is another sad story of family relationship gone wrong.

https://www.tnp.sg/news/singapore/woman-sues-son-allegedly-misappropriating-least-500k

Our money minded society have made many people value money more that relationship.

School do not teach the Confucian filial piety any more but instead focus more on technology and financial rewards education.

We just have to accept that the world have changed and we just have to adapt to the change on the ways people think and do things now.

This is not to condemn that all children are bad.  There are still good ones who take care of their old parents.  Many Singapore parents are busy with their careers and chasing for more money not realizing that in the end, it is their children filial piety that counts.

Why Does McDonald's Only Sell Coke

Coke has build an exclusive relationship with McDonald's since 1955 and gave them exclusive discounts due to their bulk purchases.

McDonald's and Coke had been working together and they would not have grown to their present size without each other helps.  Their business relationship are now inseparable.

Due to their close business relationship, Coke deliver their syrup to McDonald's using stainless steel container to ensure freshness.  That is why the taste of Coke feels so good as compare to those bought from other retailers.

The 10 Benefits of of Walking Daily

The popularity of personal mobility devices in Singapore have made many people immobile as they feel lazy even to walk to the near-by hawker center or retailer shops.  Singaporean prefer zooming around with their PMD and long-term wise, it is not good to our health.

Walking is simple and it is good if you can incorporate into your daily life.  Nowadays, instead of taking the LRT or short distance bus, I prefer walking to the MRT station.

How a Love for Grammar Funds this Family’s Work at Home Lifestyle

My husband and I were able to be full-time parents for the birth of our two daughters. It’s been amazing to focus on my children with my husband by my side rather than having one or both of us out of the house working.

The Power of Observation

Human first teacher was our eyes.  We opened our eyes and marveled at the things we saw.  By constant vigilance we discovered we not only had an eye to see, but also a brain to interpret.......

Confusing NTUC Union Membership Application

When you apply NTUC union membership via the SISEU portal, you are not entitled to the OTO Spinal Support gift even if you pay for the 6 months fees.

Receive a FREE OTO Spinal Support worth $238 when you pay 6 months membership fees and arrange credit/debit card recurring payment.

Instead, you have to apply via the NTUC union main link.

They never mention this when you apply via the SISEU portal but the end result is that you still received the same white NTUC union card.

So, people who apply via SISEU portal feel some sort cheated.  So, does the is NTUC union help on this matter?

Very strange right.

Don’t Be Forced To Sell Because of the Price

The Intelligent Investor
This is one of my favourite line from chapter 8 of TII:

“But note this important fact: The true investor scarcely ever is forced to sell his shares, and at all other times he is free to disregard the current price quotation. He need pay attention to it and act upon it only to the extent that it suits his book, and no more.* Thus the investor who permits himself to be stampeded or unduly worried by unjustified market declines in his holdings is perversely transforming his basic advantage into a basic disadvantage. That man would be better off if his stocks had no market quotation at all, for he would then be spared the mental anguish caused him by other persons’ mistakes of judgment.”

In short, don’t be forced to sell because of the price!

Full Tank vs Fill Ten

The recent hot topic in social media is regarding the BMW driver in a Caltex petrol kiosk.  I do not know who is right or wrong but I think people are angry with the BMW driver who is supposed to be the richer one vs the poorer elderly pump attendant who had to fork the differences.   If the BMW driver were to fork out the 125 SGD, it is still small amount to him vs the poor elderly man.  This is like the old Robin Hood story in modern time.

Time really flies, in a blink of an eye, my son now is attending national service.  It is an Ah Boy to Man for every Singapore male.  Looking around my friends and I think we are all aging pretty fast.  Well, life is not about the length of time, it is about what you have done to make the world a better place.

Singapore Kids Smart Phone Addiction

This news came out on the new paper and Singapore Kids will continue to have this issues as many busy Singapore parents continue to use smart phone to pacify their kids.  So in fact, the title should change to Singapore parents addiction to using smart phone to pacify their kids which later on backfired.  The kids will not be addicted if parents limit their usage in the first place.

STI Up 65.95 Reverse Yesterday Downfall

STI yesterday down and today up.  Sometimes I wonder if the date have something to do with the up and down.  Today date is auspicious 5 4 无 事, yesterday was not 4 4 死 死. So, sometimes you don't believe also cannot.

Anyway, today up was to  due U.S. and China indicated they’re willing to negotiate on escalating frictions, helping to ease fears among investors that a tit-for-tat trade dispute could derail the strongest global expansion in years.

The continue war of words between US and China does not boil well for the world stock market.  Today 04.04.2018 (in Chinese sound like 死 死) , the STI plunge 72.45.  2018 investment climate is highly volatile.  If you are technical swing trader, the volatile environment will be good for you.

Bye Bye Uber

Before Uber and Grab, ComfortDelgro was the market leader and they are ignorant.  Uber and Grab have made ComfortDelgro humble again.  With the merger of Uber and Grab, Oligopoly will again surface and drivers and consumers will have to endure the bad treatment again.  So sad.

The Green BFF is Fake

Saw many of my Facebook friends typing BFF in comment to see if it turn green as they were trying to check if their account was safe or not.    If does not, then you should change your password immediately.  It turn out that BFF was part of a feature called Text Delight, which auto animates certain words.  BFF does not relate to any account security issue.

Living in the internet era means that fake and real news can flow to us and many people will accept it as real without further checking.  Frankly, it takes a lot of work if a person were to check every news that he or she read on the social media.  The traditional printed newspaper may come back to life if one day, fake news become uncontrollable.

Don't Catch a Falling Knife

If you does stock trading, it is better to trade with the trend rather than to try and predict the turning point.  Many new trader like to trade the turning point of a down trend to get a cheaper price but end up being wrong most of the time.  Catching a falling knife can be painful and you should never do that.  Make friends with the trend and follow it, that is what stock trader need to do.

Oh My God Another Online Love Scam

Recently there was an online love scam where OCBC Bank staff save business owner from an online love scam.  Madam Ng, a 43-year-old business owner and mother of four children aged 3 to 13 said in a conference call that she met a man, who claimed to be a Korean named Owen Park living in London, on Facebook last week.   The man said he wanted to send her and her kids gifts and $20,000 but she needed to remit $2,500 to an OCBC account as "customs clearance fee" for the parcel, which was "stuck" at Malaysian customs.

Till today, I still find it puzzle that people with normal intelligent still get con by all these love scams.  Furthermore, business men or women are suppose to be more alert than working individuals due to their business dealing.  No wonder there is saying that love blinds all.

Selling Virginity for Millions

Read about the 18-year-old model Alexandra Khefren from Romania who go online and sells her virginity to Hong Kong businessman for $3.47 million.

She plan to use the money to give her parents a good life, buy a house and also get a good education for herself.

Right or wrong it is not up to us to say.  If you have been poor and lead at a hard life since young, there is a chance that you will do it to get out of the poverty trap.

Singapore Life Long Learning

Singapore is moving towards life long education and NUS is redesigning their classes for the lifelong learning push.  I think this will be good for the Singapore workforce as we need to keep up or else we will be left behind.  Many countries are once ahead of China but we can now see China progressing ahead of many countries.  I am rather surprise at the way China citizens are embracing technology.   In my company, I am also seeing a change of attitude towards technology among the older employees.  They don't grumble so much about automation and are more willingly to learn.  I believe the recent years of encouragement have somehow engrave into their brain.

Mandatory Registration of e-Scooters

Finally, the law came in with the mandatory registration of e-scooters from second half of 2018.  I was wondering how many accidents were likely to happened before the government was willingly to put this law in place.   E-transport device are simply too fast and there should be more control over them as people such as the old and young are vulnerable to them.  More sever punishment should be put in place if a rider hurt someone especially the old and young ones.   110 accidents involving e-scooters were reported in the first 9 months of 2017 is no small matters.

Patients To Co-Pay Insurance Riders

I think every Singaporean knows that medical cost have been sky rocketing like nobody business as more and more people buy hospital riders.  So, when someone buy an insurance riders they do not care what the hospital charge them.  Knowing their non-care attitude, private hospital just charge them sky rocketing prices.  I have heard stories where doctors tell patients not to worry about the high cost as the patient need not pay a single cent.  I am glad that co-payments have finally come into play to stop this insane medical cost rises.

How To Extend Your Life Span

Not sure if it was a good subject title but it is a well known truth that exercise do keep you healthy as you age and it does prolong your life.  I have read somewhere that researchers have found that 150 minutes (2 1/2 hours) of moderate to vigorous activity per week helps to keep you healthy and can extend your life span.  The benefits of regular exercise is that it helps to lower blood pressure, blood sugar level, body weight, triglycerides and unhealthy LDL cholesterol; all of which can improve your heart's health and in turn longevity.

Stock Market Trading or Investment

As a working Singaporean, I invest in the stock market in order to get a better rate of returns.  Initially, I started trading and lost quite a sum of money to those smart monies who have deep pockets and can move the price of stocks.  Smart monies are the Big Boys who have access to information that are better and faster than we layman investors.  BB are forward looking and that is why is stock prices always move ahead before the company news are out. If you are good at technical analysis and can react firmly and fast, I believe you can follow them via the price and volume analysis.  For me, I have learn and pay my lessons and just invest in dividends stocks looking at their fundamental.  If company fundamental remains good, I will just average down or up every now and then.  Not bullet proof but it suits me and I prefer to invest slow and easy.

The Love of Learning

Read the news where Miss Janice Tee was being home schooled and her parents have cultivate her a habit of curiosity about things and to love her subject of learning.  The National University of Singapore was her first school and she encountered peers with "little intellectual curiosity" as they are overly focus on their grades.   What she spoke was true and Singapore is now trying to change its education focus but many Singaporean parents are still not ready to change. It might take another decade or two for Singaporean parents to change its grades pursue but I think we are heading to the right path to make learning the focus.

Theory and Practical

Reading is good for us as it improve our knowledge.  But if we keep reading and does not put what we read into action, does it help us?  Knowledge is only potential power, it become real power if it is use to help improve our society.

Another form of reading is for health and pleasure.  Health is because reading help to exercise our brain and slow down or even prevent dementia as we age.  Pleasure is when you chose something you love reading which can be fiction or non-fiction and just enjoy it.

Too Good To Be Truth

You must have heard the news where a vending machine in Orchard will dispense S$50 when you put in S$3.  "So a too good to be true thing become true."  If someone were to tell me about this vending machine, I would likely brush it off as a scam.  Congratulation to all those Lucky Singaporean who manage to get the extra S$47 in this stunt by 3DollarBaller.  It is really free Ang Bao money.

If You Strike 12 Million Toto Draw

Today, our lunch topic was "Will you run away with the 12 million Toto money if your friend ask you to buy it and it strike the jackpot?"  Deep inside us, we think the 12 million is tempting to betray your friend even though some of us say we won't.  The logic was rather simple, even if we take our life time to work for money, we might not even hit 12 million.  So the 12 million jackpot price is tempting enough to make someone run away with the money.  Therefore, it is best that you buy the Toto yourself.  Hope Lady Luck will shine upon me.

Reading As A Daily Habit

As I step into the working world, I noticed that I have read less and less.  There are too many distraction surrounding us as we live in the digital age.  Facebook and Instagram are so addictive and our time are occupied by it unconsciously.

Reading is good exercise for our brain and it helps us to gain knowledge.  From today onward, I must make reading a daily habit, else no Facebook or Instagram time.

Another Year Have Past

Another year have past and it was my birthday again.  Have not plan out or learn anything new for year 2017.  Hopefully for 2018, I want to end the year learning something new.   Maybe to gain more insight on the Singapore stock market through technical analysis.

The Good Side of Social Media

A maid who went to Lucky Plaza store for a screen protector was not so lucky as she was force by EZ Advance Trading Enterprise's staff to pay $145.  This matter was bought to light by her employer and posted on her facebook.  The news was brought to the attention of the Straits Times reporter and become a Singaporean news.  EZ advance boss quickly refund the maid as I think he does not want further media attention.

Social media if put into good use can quickly bring justice against these unscrupulous businesses when the consumer law is too slow and cumbersome to react.

Lady Luck in Your Life

Recently, 238 A-level chemistry answer scripts from 4 Singapore JCs was stolen in Britain and I read with a smile from the answer by one of the student:

"Another student from the same JC said he scored an A despite not answering a third of Paper 3. “I still got an A even though I was expecting a B or C. However, God listened to my prayers and this incident happened, resulting in my distinction.”"

In life, it really feels good that lady luck is on your side.  Your life and career will be smooth and there will be no worry about money.   It makes me think about one of my colleague who always strike 4D and his life and career seems always smooth and easy.   Whenever he encounter any kind of trouble, somewhere, somehow a 贵人(gui ren) will appear to help him.  How I wish lady luck is always with me.

A Level Result

My son receive his 'A' level result and was disappointed as it was not great, only average.
General paper 'D', Economics 'C', Chemistry 'C', Biology 'C', Mathematics 'C'.

I told him not to worry too much as result does mean Its The End.  What he need to do not is to continue his studies either in the private school or polytechnics.  I always believe that if a person continue to upgrade, there will be other opportunities open up for us.  I told him to embrace a little setback and move forward.

Stuck in Career

After 20 years in my IT career, I think I am stuck.  The 1st 5 years is where I really learn alot and after that, it seems that my learning slow as I am not learning anything new.  Talking to my senior colleague and found that they have the same feeling.  So here I am, trying to learn something new after work by exploring things like how to register a domain, host a website and tracking my progress with this personal blog.  I am glad that the internet was invented during my life time.

Daily Writing

For quite sometimes, I have been lazy and had not been writing.  That is why I create this new blog to ensure that I practise writing something on a daily basis and it does not matter whether it is long or short.  I make it public and searchable but I don't actually promote it, so if you happen to read it, that was pure coincidence.

The Millionaire Master Plan - Reading Notes

The Millionaire Master Plan: Your Personalized Path to Financial Success

Do not pick a path based on someone telling you it's a better or faster way to make money.  Don't follow a path only for the money.

Do seek people out through your network and research who you would be passionate about working with - passionate enough that even if you didn't achieve all your financial goals, you would find the work fulfilling and energizing.
