When you are in a crowded place where you feel your phone may be prone to pickpocketing, just plug in your earphones or headphones, even if you are not listening to music - just pretend to.
The person trying to pickpocket will not target your phone, as they will know that if they take it, the music may stop, and they may get caught.
This is very useful, especially when traveling on crowded buses.
