Helping The Less Privileges

In our society, many are only living for themselves and it is good to hear of stories that young adults who are building social enterprise to help those who are less privileges.  Looking around us, many youngsters have developed the modern bad habit of paying an interest on the mobile devices only.  Many ignore their surroundings and even their loved ones even when eating at restaurant.  It good to hear of such good samaritans who are Singaporeans and it shows that there are good people living within our society.  :-)

I started a social enterprise called Society Staples in 2015 when I was still in university to promote greater inclusivity for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In the last five years, Society Staples has grown from a two-man outfit to one with eight staff, including interns.

Among other things, we design activities, events and programmes to allow people to experience what it is like to live with a disability and invite them to share what they have learnt from the experience, and how it changes the way they think about PWDs.

Time for a Singapoliday

Many Singaporean including me like to travel overseas during the school holidays.  COVID-19 had made this not possible this year and possibility next year too.  So its time to switch our mind set to local holidays instead.  Hopefully, the local hotels will come out with good rates for Singaporean.  Time to frequestnt our Universal Studios again.  :-)

SINGAPORE: Residents of Singapore are being encouraged to take a local holiday – dubbed a “Singapoliday” - and rediscover their home country while supporting local business through a S$45 million marketing campaign over the next nine months by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and other agencies.

Gambling - You Lose 9 Times Out of 10

Gambling habits can hit anyone, whether you are rich or poor.  But as a high flier with high income, he is already richer than many Singaporean.  Don't understand why he needed more money.  Anyway, don't gamble is the best thing to do, no matter how small it is, just don't start.

SINGAPORE - A former deputy group director of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) was charged on Friday (July 24) with corruption involving $1.24 million in loans from contractors and sub-contractors.
Henry Foo Yung Thye, 46, who had a gambling habit and had chalked up debts, allegedly obtained gratification in the form of loans from contractors and sub-contractors of the LTA between 2014 and 2019.

The Side Effect of Social Media

I understand that sometimes when you are young, you might be curious, but give some thoughts to YOUR OWN futures as this will leave a BLACK mark on your resume.  If you know that you cannot control it, do ask for help on those social helpline.

"The DPP said: "Moreover, the accused felt some curiosity towards videos containing sexual content, which had been posted in WhatsApp and Telegram chat groups... the accused had previously joined."

This led Chan to decide to take a video of the victim while she was inside the handicapped toilet, added the DPP."

No More Painful Nose Swabs Test

I always believe that humans working as a group together around the world will be able to fight COVID-19 as done before with the Spanish Flu.  The battle may not be won today but come tomorrow, the battle might be won as I believe that humans will persist and fight the battle with dignity.

Researchers around the world are working on the next generation of coronavirus tests that give answers in less than an hour, without onerous equipment or highly trained personnel.
The latest so-called point-of-care tests, which could be done in a doctor’s office or even at home, would be a welcome upgrade from today’s status quo: uncomfortable swabs that snake up the nose and can take several days to produce results.

Young Singaporeans Giving Back To Society

Great to hear such encouraging story where young adults are helping to give back to society.  Singapore will be a much better place to live in peace and harmony if there are more such good young adults. Keep up the good work.

As local arts groups struggle to find funding during the Covid-19 pandemic, two Singapore Polytechnic students are giving back to local arts communities by raising money to help them tide through this difficult period.
